('How to attain inner peace', Mufti Muhammad Taqi Uthmani) Posted by HE, 20/8/19
He says: "I have been through a time in which I would hold the company of the wealthy. During this time, perhaps there was nobody more distressed than I was. When visiting friends I would notice that their property is greater than mine, their mode of transport is more advanced than mine. I would purchase the most elaborate clothing from the bazaar, only to find friends have surpassed me in their attire. Wherever I would go I would see better possessions than mine. Someone has a nice house, someone has nice clothes. Later, I held the company of those with modest wealth. In their company I attained contentment and ease.
Now when I visit anyone and see their condition and compare to my own, I realise I have a better house, a better mode of transport, better clothes. I express gratitude to Allah Ta'ala for this. This is 'Qana'ah', (contentment). Without this, not only will a person expend his entire life in pursuit of it, but he will do so at the expense of his comfort.
