In 2011 the Masjid Trust purchased a disused hall and adapted it for 5 times salah. The condition of this building was poor and it was not able to fulfil the long term requirements of the community. In 2014, neighbouring land was made available. Trustees agreed to purchase the land and a planning application was submitted for a new Masjid. After 5 years of challenges, Alhamdu lillah the Masjid was granted planning permission.
The new Masjid is under construction.
Originally constructed as a church and later used as 'Dewsbury Centre for the Deaf', The 'Musalla' Hall has been serving the community since 2011. It quickly became apparent that the hall, by virtue of its size and condition, would not serve the community's needs for long.
Faced with the choice of either renovating the hall, or purchasing a neighbouring plot of land, The community decided a purpose-built facility would better serve its long-term needs and land was purchased in 2014.
The new Masjid design fuses the architectural style of traditional grand Victorian villas along West Park Street, with an elegant octagonal prayer hall.
Located in a conservation area rich in ornate stone detailing, it was essential that the Masjid design was sympathetic to the historic features characteristic of the area. The architecture embraces these features in the detailing of the 'West Park Street' elevation in its incorporation of natural stone walling, jambs, mullions, heads and cills, bays, coping, plinths and string courses. A Qibla orientated octagonal hall introduces an Islamic reference, emerging from and complimenting the traditional front elevation.
